CONNELLS POINT GALA DAY THIS SUNDAY SOME QUESTIONS ANSWERED

There have been some enquiries received about the reason and format of this weekends gala day at Tempe.

Firstly, it is an opportunity for all of us to get a final look at the teams we have graded and test them against each other and against some other friendly competition, before our season starts. Today we can announce that the "holy family" Club from Sutherland will be sending some teams for us to play against. Hopefully we will be able to announce more clubs sending teams as the week goes by, this will give us a huge opportunity to test ourselves against what will be our new competition for those teams playing in the SSNA competition for this season and give us an idea of where we should be graded.

If your age group still requires some final grading and you are unable to attend, then Yes, it may affect what team you are placed in, particularly if you have not been at earlier gradings as well. We understand that some families have other commitments and that is completely fine, however we can only make decisions on things we know, and if our graders havent seen you play then we cant make a very good decision based on what we are unsure of.

For everyone who is attending this Sunday, (and that is hopefully everyone) If your team is playing in the Sutherland competition you MUST get your photo taken by our photographer in order for us to register you correctly. If you wont be attending this weekend then you MUST get 2 passport sized photos of yourself or your daughter, and make sure we have them prior to the 1st of March, in order for us to register correctly. This is a requirement of SSNA and we wont be given nor do we expect any leniency in the rules of registration.

We Look forward to seeing everyone down at Tempe this weekend, for a day of friendly competition and an extra day to play Netball, on Sunday Connie will be at the Courts as well as umpiring coaches and a BBQ and Full canteen facility.

MODIFIED DAY AND FAMILY FUN DAY A SUCCESS

Thankyou to all our young members for turning out at the modified family fun day, we would estimate that over 250 people made their way down to Poulton Park on Saturday to enjoy a relaxing morning in the park whilst the young girls played a game of Netball or two or played some other fun netball games. There were plenty of mums, dads, brothers and sisters and we are pleased that everyone was able to enjoy the morning. Connie made two special appearances which were popular with the young kids and older kids alike, and we might even be able to see her and some of our sharp looking players in their unifroms in the local newspaper in the next week or so. Everyone should keep their eye on "THE LEADER" over the coming days. We also used the day to introduce our club to the local council, and we were pleased to welcome Councillor Nick Katris, the Mayor of Kogarah and his deputy Councillor Kathryn Landsberry. Both Mr Katris and Ms Landsberry announced the news that Poulton Park was to incorporate the " Val Hornby Netball Courts" as part of its name, and that a new sign would be erected at the entrance of the park which would demonstrate this addition. We are extremely grateful that the Council has agreed to this motion which helps our club continue to build its identity in the local area. 2008 has started with a bang and we look forward to the coming weeks and continuing the improvement of The Connells Point Netball Club.
CONNELLS POINT AT NETBALL NSW BI ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Connells Point Netball were represented at the Netball NSW Bi-annual conference over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of February. Only the second time the event has been held and significant in many ways with over 280 attendees from all over the state and with the NEW RULES released for the 2008 Netball season as decided upon by IFNA Congress at the conclusion of last years World Championships. Our Club is now in a position to pass on the rule changes and the proper interpretations to all our coaches so that our teams are the best prepared for the upcoming season, these will be distributed at the coaches and managers meeting which is coming up on a date to be announced after this weekend.
Our club representatives were pleased to socialise with our new friends from Sutherland, and were able to acquaint ourselves with some of their Executive which will ensure a smooth and enjoyable transition to our new competition (for those willing to accept the new challenge) and we were also able to listen to some seminars presented by the likes of Former Australian Coach Jill Mcintosh, Current NSW Swifts Coach Julie Fitzgerald, former Adelaide Ravens Coach Jackie Blyth and also an interesting workshop on Vision from leading sports optometrist Patrick Gerry. All the information that was obtained over the weekend will be invaluable as we filter it down through the levels of our club and ensure that Connells Point has a continuing bright future with Netball in NSW.

REGISTRATION DAY NEWS

Registration day has come and gone for 2008, and so far our club looks as though it has grown by about 25% to approx 25 teams, and we are still confident that there are more people to come.

If you forgot, missed, or couldnt make it to registration, you should get in touch with Maureen via the website or phone Maureen or Leanne to let us know that you are interested in playing, I can certainly assure you this season wont be one that you should miss out on.

More fantastic news is that you all had a positive response to the possibility of playing at Sutherland for 2008, Although we understand that some of you are happy at St George, we are thrilled that we will be able to register a good number of teams at Sutherland as well.

And whilst we are celebrating good news, its fantastic to announce that we have had some interest from potential sponsors of our club in 2008, keeping in mind that all funds donated in the form of sponsorship is used to better equip our members with clothing, training tools, or activities throughout the season, of course we are still looking for more and if anyone is or knows someone who would be interested please put them in touch with Julian to discuss any opportunity.

We look forward to everyones attendance at grading and the FAMILY FUN DAY on the 16th of February, where you can meet the Mayor of our local area and Connie, as well as enjoy some games of netball and also buy a sausage from the bbq or a cold drink. Remember this is the only day to get your UNIFORM fitted and ordered.

CONNELLS POINT NETBALL CLUB NOW ALSO AFFILIATED WITH SSNA

The Connells Point Netball Club has tonight officially affiliated itself with the Sutherland Shire Netball Association.
This means that we can now offer our members the convenience of choice when registering to play netball in season 2008.

For this season and seasons to come, Connells Point Members will be able to play at either Sutherland or St George associations. St George obviously being located at West Botany Street, Rockdale. As well as Sutherland which is located in Bellingara Road at Sylvania, Just 1 minute drive from Southgate Shopping Centre.

We would like to offer the following message in regard to this decision:

Connells Point Netball committed itself to offering its members the best possible opportunities at the beginning of 2007. Last season we began to build ourselves a new and unique identity, and now we are able to offer the first steps in the expansion and strengthening of the club. We Currently have 20 Teams on our books, with the potential to more than double that number over the next 2-3 years, we can now offer netballers a club to play in from as far as the Airport and Tempe, to Waterfall and Menai.
Geographically we are perfectly positioned to take advantage of this situation with only 500m difference in travel to either location (sutherland courts are closer).
We have and will continue to be a long standing member of St George but look forward to our fresh new relationship with Sutherland and being able to take advantage of the opportunities that both associations present to us.

This step also makes our club more appealing to any potential sponsors who will now receive coverage in all of Southern Sydney, we can now reach as many as 15000 families with advertising and promotion of our club.

We sincerely hope that our members and other readers support the club in this expansion and see it as a positive move towards the future of Connells Point Netball.

On registration day this Saturday you will be asked which venue you would prefer to play, and at this stage we anticipate that there will be a discount of fees due to a different structure operating at Sutherland.

CONNELLS POINT GALA DAY

Connells Point Netball Club will be holding a gala day on Sunday the 24th of February. The day will suit our club and hopefully many others for various purposes. Connells Point will be using it as a final grading before having to register their teams in their competitions for 2008 with the association. It will be an extra day of fun and competition and a good opportunity for new team mates to get to know each other and for coaches to get to know their new teams. This day will also be raising money for Cancer Research in the memory of our friend and Life Member Val Hornby. On the day there will be a sausage sizzle and canteen facilities available, and we are trying to secure the services of Brian at the Athletes Foot, Hurstville Westfield so that parents can get their kids a new set of netball shoes before the season proper begins. The Athletes Foot Hurstville is a proud Sponsor of the St George and City of Sydney Netball Associations.
